01 · EXECUTIVE VERDICT

The decline is confirmed by more than profit-taking: the dollar and the real cost of money are moving against gold

The REGION INVESTS/Twelve Data operational feed showed XAU/USD at $4,270.71/oz at 06:07 UTC. That was 2.50% below the weekly open of $4,380.05 and 2.43% below the close five sessions earlier. The last completed D1 candle, 24 September, closed at $4,275.28; the week-to-cut-off range was $4,243.32–4,384.53.

Confirmed macro signal

On 23 September, nominal US 10Y reached 5.11%, real 10Y 2.76%, while the 10Y breakeven was only 2.35%. Almost the entire one-day yield jump came from the real component.

What price says

D1 closed below SMA20, SMA50 and SMA200; H4 was also below all three averages. RSI was not extremely oversold and MACD remained negative.

What supports the market

ETF holdings, PBoC purchases and record Chinese imports create structural demand. India’s large discount to import parity shows, however, that physical absorption is uneven.

REGION INVESTS assessment. This is no longer adequately described as simple profit-taking. Falling gold, rising DXY and rising real yields confirm one another. Until that alignment breaks, rebounds remain tactical rather than proof of a renewed uptrend.
Main interpretation risk. Strong structural demand does not remove short-term rate sensitivity. Central banks and ETFs can cushion a correction, but they are not required to stop it at a particular daily level.

REGION INVESTS assessment. The first improvement would be an H4 recovery above $4,309–4,323; confirmation would require a D1 close above $4,360 with lower DXY and real yields. A D1 close below $4,238 alongside further yield strength would extend the corrective regime. These are analytical conditions, not instructions to transact.

04 · FED & COST OF MONEY

Real yields delivered a stronger gold signal than the Fed decision itself

Fed decision · fact

On 16 September, the FOMC unanimously raised the target range by 25 bp to 3.75–4.00%. The next meeting is 27–28 October.

SEP · fact

The median end-2026 rate is 4.1%, consistent with one more 25 bp move from the current midpoint. Four participants see 4.375%; two see 3.875%.

Expectations · fact

Reuters on 21 September cited an 88% probability of another increase by December. This is a timestamped market snapshot, not a permanent value.

Series22 Sep23 SepMoveGold implication
US 2Y4.71%4.85%+14 bpA firmer expected Fed path.
US 10Y nominal4.96%5.11%+15 bpRaises gold’s opportunity cost.
US 10Y real2.63%2.76%+13 bpThe most direct negative channel for a non-yielding asset.
10Y breakeven2.33%2.35%+2 bpThe nominal-yield shock was mainly real, not inflation compensation.
REGION INVESTS assessment. While real 10Y remains near or above 2.7%, strong US data or a higher term premium can weigh on gold despite geopolitical uncertainty. A sustained reversal needs lower real yields more than a single dovish remark.

Sources: Federal Reserve; FRED DGS2, DGS10, DFII10 and T10YIE. Latest available yield observations are 23 September; the breakeven is also available for 24 September at 2.33%.

05 · US DOLLAR CONFIRMATION

DXY confirms rather than contradicts the gold decline

Fact

DXY was approximately 101.24 at 01:25 EDT on 25 September; +1.01% over five days and +1.54% over one month, according to MarketWatch.

Alignment

Gold −2.43% over five sessions, DXY +1.01%, real 10Y 2.63% → 2.76%. The three series deliver a coherent macro signal.

What would contradict it

If DXY and real yields keep rising while gold stops making new lows, that would indicate hidden physical/haven demand. Evidence is not yet sufficient.

REGION INVESTS assessment. DXY below 100.8 together with a decline in real 10Y would be the first external confirmation of stabilisation. A gold bounce without that confirmation remains vulnerable.
06 · UNITED STATES MACRO

The next releases need to move the rate path, yields and the dollar together

CPI · confirmed fact

August: headline +0.4% m/m and +3.4% y/y; core +0.3% m/m and +2.4% y/y. Energy +2.1% m/m; gasoline +3.9%.

Employment · confirmed fact

August: payrolls +162k; unemployment 4.1%; average hourly earnings +0.3% m/m and +3.1% y/y.

Fed SEP context

2026 medians: GDP 2.3%, unemployment 4.1%, PCE 3.7%, core PCE 3.4%. Inflation remains above target with resilient growth.

30 Sep · 08:30Q2 GDP, third estimateGrowth and domestic-demand revision.A material move from the 1.5% annualised second estimate, not a small technical revision.
30 Sep · 08:30August Personal Income & OutlaysCore PCE and spending — the main Fed test.Core PCE ≥0.3% m/m with firm spending is negative for gold; ≤0.2% with softer demand is more supportive.

14 Oct · 08:30September CPITests oil pass-through into inflation.Broad core pressure matters more than one energy component.
REGION INVESTS assessment. A weak headline alone is insufficient. Gold needs a coherent chain: softer PCE/labour → lower expected policy rate → lower real yields and DXY. If oil sustains inflation expectations, weaker activity could create a stagflation mix rather than a cleanly positive signal.
07 · GEOPOLITICS WITH A MEASURABLE CHANNEL

Route risk persists, but partial restoration of Saudi infrastructure reduces the oil tail

Supply · fact

Reuters reported on 22 September that Saudi Arabia restarted its East–West pipeline after the 11 September shutdown. Flow resumed at reduced capacity; full restoration was estimated at six to eight weeks.

Scale · fact

The route can redirect roughly 4m bpd to the Red Sea, about 4% of global supply. The restart pushed Brent down by more than $2.

Routes · fact

Hormuz, Bab el-Mandeb and Houthi risks still affect shipping, insurance and delivery times; conditions have not fully normalised.

REGION INVESTS assessment. The channel works both ways. A more reliable Hormuz bypass lowers oil, inflation expectations and potential Fed pressure, which may support gold through yields. At the same time, a lower immediate risk premium reduces haven demand. Brent, freight/insurance and real yields must therefore be monitored together.
08 · CENTRAL BANKS & GOLD ETFs

Structural demand is real, but it has not yet reversed the weekly impulse

Global ETFs · August

+$18bn and +121t; holdings reached a record 4,189t and AUM $615bn.

ETF · YTD

+$29bn and +160t, according to the World Gold Council.

PBoC · August

+20.2t; 22nd buying month; official holdings 2,387t, approximately 9% of reserves.

Commodity funds

Reuters: +$1.17bn in the week to 16 September, led by gold/precious metals.

Structure versus noise. Rising ETF holdings in tonnes and official central-bank purchases change metal stocks. AUM growth without tonnage may be a price effect; daily futures turnover and social-media narratives do not prove physical demand.
REGION INVESTS assessment. Demand creates a cushion, but a short-term reversal requires fresh weekly ETF inflows and price resilience despite high DXY/yields. For now, the macro correlation signal is stronger.
09 · PHYSICAL MARKET · CHINA / INDIA / UAE

China builds structural imports, India resists price, and Dubai requires deal-specific quotes

MarketConfirmed dataInterpretationLimitation
ChinaCustoms data show more than 1,100t imported in January–August, already above all of 2025. August was the monthly high.Reserve diversification and household demand form a structural channel.Imports do not equal final consumption; some flow replenishes inventories.
China ETF / PBoCETF holdings +44t in January–August; PBoC +20.2t in August and roughly 80t YTD.Financial and official demand confirm one another.Official data can be published with a lag.
IndiaDiscount about $78/oz to import parity on 11 Sep; August imports $2.3bn, an estimated 15–20t, −45% m/m and −58% y/y.High price suppresses immediate wholesale/jewellery demand.Unofficial supply and local taxes complicate comparisons.
India ETFsAugust inflow INR25.97bn; holdings +1.6t to 121.3t.Financial demand is stronger than physical imports.ETF holdings do not replace bar/jewellery demand.
UAE / DubaiNo reliable public live wholesale premium or daily refinery throughput is available.A decision requires a live counterparty quote and landed cost.Verify assay, origin, refinery slot, freight, insurance, banking cut-off and compliance.
REGION INVESTS assessment. The data do not prove a universal physical shortage. China is absorbing metal aggressively, India trades at a discount, and Dubai is opaque without bilateral quotes. The relevant business price is regional execution cost, not XAU/USD alone.
10 · SUPPLY & INDUSTRY

Supply changes slowly; flows and recycling set the weekly balance

Total supply Q2

1,268.9t, approximately flat y/y.

Mine production Q2

965.6t, +2% y/y; H1 1,867t, +3%.

Recycling Q2

326.1t, −6% y/y despite high prices.

Producer hedging

−22.8t: hedge-book reduction.

Industry assessment. Mine supply does not respond to weekly spot moves: grades, permits, capex, energy and jurisdiction risk are the constraints. Oil and expensive logistics raise mining/refinery costs with a lag. Rates, FX, ETFs and recycling are more likely than new mine output to change the near-term balance.

50%

Base · pressured stabilisation

  • Working range $4,238–4,323; rebounds are capped by the SMA area.
  • DXY remains near 101; real 10Y stays 2.65–2.80%.
  • Structural demand protects the lower boundary, but momentum does not reverse.
  • Invalidation: D1 close outside the range with confirmation from USD/yields.
25%

Gold-positive

  • H4 recovers above $4,323 and D1 above $4,360.
  • DXY falls below 100.8; real 10Y moves toward/below 2.60%.
  • Observation zones: $4,375–4,385, then $4,417–4,480.
  • Catalyst: softer PCE/JOLTS, sustained ETF inflow or a new measurable risk-off impulse.
25%

Gold-negative

  • D1 closes below $4,238; DXY and real yields make local highs.
  • First observation area $4,200; then the historical $4,100–4,116 cluster.
  • Catalyst: firm PCE/labour, further hawkish repricing or ETF outflow.
  • Invalidation: fast recovery above $4,304–4,323 with lower yields.
Important. Probabilities are the REGION INVESTS expert distribution at publication time and levels are risk-monitoring references. They are not a promise of outcome or a recommendation to buy, sell or transact.
12 · REGION INVESTS BUSINESS VIEW

The priority is to protect transaction economics from macro and logistics volatility

BenchmarkRecord the source, timestamp and price type: live spot, London benchmark or agreed fixing. Do not mix them with D1/H4 closes.
PricingSeparate metal value, commercial spread, assay, refinery, insurance, freight, taxes and banking costs. Shorten quote validity during sharp moves.
SensitivityStress-test margin/collateral at $4,238, $4,323 and $4,360, with real 10Y at 2.6–2.8% and DXY at 100.8–101.5. These are stress inputs, not trading signals.
Physical sourcingUse different premium/discount assumptions for China, India and Dubai. Require written confirmation of availability, origin, assay and refinery slot.
ExecutionAhead of 29–30 September and 2 October, agree the price window, tolerance, settlement currency, bank cut-off, delay/slippage clause and route contingency.
ComplianceKYC/AML, sanctions, beneficial ownership, provenance, chain of custody and signatory authority must be completed before financial execution.
REGION INVESTS conclusion. The market calls for execution discipline, not a single-price forecast. The macro regime is negative for gold, but structural demand and route risks leave room for sharp reversals. Short quote validity, transparent cost breakdown and regional physical-flow verification matter more than a directional view.
